Toolset Maps
Toolset Maps was once an essential plugin for adding interactive maps to WordPress sites using Toolset’s suite. While it’s now officially retired, you can still download it for free as a DevTools Club member. If your site already uses Toolset layouts (Types, Views, Forms), this plugin lets you retain map functionality without disruption, no code updates needed.
What Toolset Maps Brought to Your Site
Toolset Maps seamlessly integrates with Toolset’s ecosystem, enabling you to:
- Add Address fields to posts, pages, or custom types – no coding
- Display interactive maps using Google Maps, Microsoft Azure Maps, or OpenStreetMap
- Plot interactive markers that show custom content (text, images, links) on click
- Build location-based searches, filters, and clusters, perfect for directories, real-estate, events, and local business apps
Admins simply created an Address field in Toolset → Custom Fields, picked a map provider in Toolset → Settings → Maps, and the plugin auto-handled the rest.
Why It’s Worth Keeping (Even Retired)
- Zero‑code setup: No need to edit JavaScript or use APIs maps just work out of the box.
- Multi‑provider flexibility: Choose Google, Azure, or OSM complete with API options or open-source freedom
- WPML compatibility: Fully supports multilingual sites maps translate with your content
- Retains existing functionality: Ideal for legacy sites drop it in, activate it, and maps continue to operate.
- Clean GPL‑licensed release: Unmodified, original Toolset code safe and redistributable.
Limitations to Be Aware Of
- No longer maintained: As a retired plugin, it won’t receive updates. It works on most recent WP versions, but future compatibility isn’t guaranteed.
- Feature gaps remain: Core Toolset Maps lacks modern enhancements like OSM clustering, satellite layers, custom styling features now offered by third-party plugins.
- Best for existing maps: Great for maintaining current map functionality but new projects may benefit more from actively developed solutions.
How to Install It for Free
- Log in to DevTools Club, visit your dashboard, and download the Toolset Maps ZIP file.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload, select the ZIP, and click “Install Now.”
- Activate the plugin.
- Navigate to Toolset → Settings → Maps to select your map provider (Google/Azure/OSM).
- Add Address custom fields via Toolset → Custom Fields, and use them in your Toolset Views or templates.
Map blocks and shortcodes will then allow you to render interactive, geolocation-based maps with minimal effort.
